about the photographer

I got back into photography recently and wanted to showcase my favorites in a space separate from my blog.

I currently use a Rebel XTi with the standard 18-55 mm kit lens, a 50MM/f 1.8 Canon lens and a Sigma 70-300 zoom lens. My most used accesories include a Hoya close-up ring set, a wireless remote and my canon Speedlite 430 flash. I have started to shoot in RAW format and use PhotoShop CS3.

For fun, I have recently started to shoot TTV (Through The Viewfinder) using a vintage ArgosyFlex 75.

For more casual snapshot pictures I use a Canon Elph PowerShot S410. I also have a fully-manual Nikkormat film camera that my father bought brand-new back in 1971. Although I do not like to drag it around any more and I am focusing more on digital, it holds a very special place in my heart and was the first camera that really inspired me to take more photos.

In December 2006 I started a joint venture with my friend and fellow photographer Christine Selleck Tremoulet. Together we sell our photographic prints via our website Fresh Photography and are now offering event and commerical photography. We can be found every month at the Yale Street Arts Market in The Heights, Houston and hope to go on the road to other locations eventually.

I also was invited to help coordinate a local photo exhibit called 600 sq mi: Photos from Houston by Houstonist. Two of my images were selected for inclusion in a group show.

In addition, my photos have been featured in several locations and are gaining more attention. A few more notable sites where my photos have been spotlighted and/or used:

> Regular contributor to Barstool Magazine – including front cover for August 2007 issue.

> Published in the May 2007 issue of Architectural Record.

> Published (full page) in the October 2006 issue of LD+A architectural lighting magazine (see image here).

 > Schmap Guide to Los Angeles, Houston and Dallas.

 > The Houstonist Flickr Group Photo of the Day – selected on a regular basis

For fun, I also like to take and submit pictures to The Mirror Project. I started off as “Elaine” on the site but other Elaine’s started posting the same way so I can now be found under “elaine m-g“. In addition, I curated a couple of galleries: “Vintage” and “Tiny Digital Fun.”

I actively contribute at the following sites:

I administer three groups at Flickr:

A little more about me… I am also a Cuban-American, native Houstonian, proud Texas A&M Aggie, wife, loyal friend, Spanish speaker, child of the ’80s, blogger, traveler, gardener, book lover, salsa dancer, dog lover and VW Bug owner.
